The process
Three steps. Every job.
Wash, sand, two coats of stain. The sanding is the step most crews skip, and it is the reason a stain holds up instead of peeling the next spring.
01Pressure wash
Years of grey, dirt and old finish come off first, so the stain bonds to clean wood instead of sitting on top of it.
02Sand
Every board, step and rail gets sanded smooth. Splinters gone, grain opened up so the stain soaks in evenly.
03Two coats of stain
Two coats of quality stain, Dulux or Cutek depending on the wood, for colour that holds up to Ontario winters.

OakRidge Stain Co. is a family-run business that started in 2018 and works across Burlington, Hamilton, Oakville and the towns between. The same crew handles every job, from the first pressure wash to the last coat of stain.
Much of the work comes from returning clients and their neighbours. A few of those clients have become friends over the years, which tends to happen when a deck is done right and the crew comes back season after season.

Wood has to be dry and the weather warm for stain to cure, so the season is short. An off-season quote locks in a spot and a price for the start of next season.

How long does a restoration take?
Every job runs in phases: wash, dry, sand, stain, dry. The number of days depends on the size of the deck and the weather, since stain never goes on wet wood. The timeline comes with the quote.
Can you wash and sand without staining?
Yes. When the wood is still in good shape, a wash and sand brings back the natural colour without a stain. It is a good option for newer cedar.
What stain do you use?
Dulux semi-transparent oil-based stains on cedar and pressure-treated wood. Cutek Extreme with a colour tint on exotic hardwoods like Ipe. The colour is your call.
Do you replace damaged boards?
Yes. Split or rotten boards get replaced with new cedar before staining. Skirting and decorative stone around the base can be added on the same job.
